What is a Mobile Hotspot?

With Mobile Hotspot, you take the Cricket network with you whenever, wherever we have coverage in all 50 U.S. states. Add the Mobile Hotspot feature to qualifying plans and your cell phone becomes a Wi-Fi Hotspot among multiple devices at the same time! Tether away!

  • Tether among six (6) devices at the same time using Wi-Fi or a USB cable!

What are the Requirements for a Mobile Hotspot?

To use Mobile Hotspot you'll need an eligible phone and:

  • The current Cricket Core plan ($55/month unlimited plan) or an eligible grandfathered plan + the Mobile Hotspot feature added to your rate plan; or
  • The Cricket More plan ($60/month unlimited plan), which includes an allotment of Mobile Hotspot data

How do I add Mobile Hotspot?

Just follow the quick and easy steps below to add Mobile Hotspot to your current plan. You can add it online in My Account or through the myCricket app on your phone.

My Account Online

  1. Sign into My Account.
  2. You'll see a summary of your current plan and add-on features.
  3. Select Manage Plans & Services.
  4. Select the blue arrow by each phone number to see your current plan and features for that line.
  5. Select Edit Features
  6. Under Change Add-on Features, select the blue arrow by $10/mo Mobile Hotspot & More Data; choose $10/mo Mobile Hotspot Add-on.
  7. Select Add Feature.
  8. Review your changes. Then select Checkout.
  9. Schedule your feature change for today or the start of your next billing cycle. Select Next.
  10. If your change is scheduled for the future, select Next and then Submit. If you set your features to change today, enter your credit card information, and accept the Terms and Conditions.
  11. Select Submit.

myCricket App 

  1. Open the myCricket app and sign in.
  2. Tap Manage Your Lines, then select a line.
  3. Select Edit Features. 
  4. Under Manage Features, tap $10/mo Mobile Hotspot; choose $10/mo Mobile Hotspot Add-on.
  5. If you want this feature for the current billing cycle only, select Once. Otherwise, select Monthly.
  6. Tap Next: Review Changes to review your changes, then select Checkout.
  7. Schedule your feature change for today or the start of your next billing cycle. Tap Continue.
  8. If your change is scheduled for today, enter your credit card information, and agree to the Terms and Conditions. Tap Submit Payment.
  9. If you scheduled your change to be effective at the start of your next bill cycle, tap Submit Changes.

What is Tethering?

In data talk, connecting devices to your smartphone to share Internet access is called tethering. With Cricket's Mobile Hotspot feature, you can use tethering to connect six (6) devices at the same time using Wi-Fi or a USB cable.

How Does Tethering Affect High-Speed Data?

When devices are tethered to your phone with the Mobile Hotspot feature, they use your Mobile Hotspot data allotment. The more devices you connect, the more data will be used. After your Mobile Hotspot data allotment is used, tethering speeds are slowed to 128 Kbps for the rest of the billing cycle or until you purchase additional Mobile Hotspot data.

Mobile Hotspot FAQs

No. Data expires at the end of your rate plan billing cycle, so you may not receive a full month of add-on data in your first month. There are no refunds or proration for partial months. So, you should purchase add-on data at the start of your rate plan cycle for the best value. Example: Jane purchases her add-on data on May 10th. Jane's rate plan billing cycle ends on May 15th. Jane has 5 days to use the 10 GB of add-on data before it expires.
Yes. Mobile Hotspot allows the user to tether their phone and the Cricket network to another device while also being able to use the smartphone's features.
No. Mobile Hotspot will power off after a period of inactivity. The Mobile Hotspot function is also defaulted to off.
There will be a status indicator on the device showing when Mobile Hotspot is in use.
Tethering is only available through the Cricket Mobile Hotspot feature. If you have an eligible phone but do not have the Mobile Hotspot feature, when you attempt to tether your phone you will be directed to enter this URL into your phone: www.cricketwireless.com/hotspot . There, you may select the Mobile Hotspot feature for $10/month.
Yes, if you've added the Mobile Hotspot feature and are on the Cricket Core plan or if you have the Cricket More plan (req’s compatible device). For unlimited plans, for all data usage, Cricket may temporarily slow data speeds when the network is congested.
Visit My Account or the myCricket app and purchase the 10 GB Mobile Hotspot Add-on for $10. It can be added as a one-time or monthly charge.
